Deer Dreams

Do not copy or publish this in any way, shape or form without my written permission.

Inspired by Hannibal the TV series. I have a thing about antlers, so the dream like sequences in Hannibal impressed me greatly.

This is a composite of free and bought resources, and my own images combined and mixed up in Photoshop.
Check it out on Society6.

Please note there is a special (dark) edition of this image only available here on Redbubble. I will only sell 20 of that version:
This one is only available as a print/poster.

I love day dreaming. Model myself, edited in Photoshop with my own and bought resources plus one texture by the amazing and generous Brooke Shaden.

The Cost of Flying - More Steampunk

© Sybille Sterk
Do not copy or publish this in any way, shape or form without my written permission.

This is quite a personal image to me. I am scared of heights and I'd love to fly just so I won't have to be scared of falling. However, this is also a conceptual image, about the dangers involved in flying (free), hence the scissors, on the other hand flying is it's own reward (hence the keys). Anything we do has a cost and unfortunately nothing is free but too often we feel the dangers even before we get close to experiencing them.

Images from a disc of royalty free public domain vintage images, with my own photos and brushes and a few freebies mixed it, all coloured and mashed up by me.

I'd love to know what you think about the image, so drop me a line or leave a comment. :-)

Hawaii, Baby!

... as in 'Groovy, Baby!' I thought it was something fun for the weekend. :-) I saw this when I was out taking pictures of spring blossom. It was stuck to the dashboard of an old pick up truck and although there's something dreadfully kitsch about it, it's also awesome in it's own right. :-) Enjoy!

All images/textures/brushes my own or bought. Edited with Photoshop.

All my images are available on RedbubbleArtflakesSociety6 and Bluecanvas as prints, cards, posters, skins for laptops, Blackberry, iPhones and other phones (for the skins go toBluecanvas). You can now also get most of my images on cushion covers (go to Society6 for these).
I love the iPad case and it looks cute on the cushion too. Something a little different.

Sisters Under The Skin

MCN: CCCJ1-XHKC3-2FX5S
I've been reading so much about women's rights being abused everywhere in the world recently  - from Honduras to America we seem to lose all the hard earned rights to our own body and what to do with it. Read this article here and weep.

I was so upset and angry about this article and tried to think of why it made me so upset, and a large part of the reason is that these are 'my sisters' what happens to them happens to me and it shouldn't happen. The long history of women's rights (or the lack of them) has shown we only get things done, if we stick together.

So this is what this image is about. Sisters under the skin, no matter what colour or where we are. :-)

This Is Who We Are

MCN: CR61H-CJ6KN-NQ2N3

Inspired by the stock image itself. I loved the strength in this and the absolute confidence.

For the generation of women who are who they are and who they want to be.

Rapunzel

MCN: CJHT2-F3QA5-MWL7U
This is another shot from my first photo shoot. It's my favourite because of the amount of emotion that comes through. I always liked Rapunzel; children always seem to pay for their parents' mistakes and in that way the tale is quite realistic. Depending on the version of the tale you read Rapunzel does quite a lot to free herself, other than most of the other princesses, which only seem to hang around, often asleep or otherwise incapacitated, waiting to be rescued. ;-) I am still waiting for a gung-ho princess, although, saying that Fhiona from Shrek was a good start....

Lady Godiva

MCN: CQ1VW-WFPBQ-18N22

This image was inspired by the legend of Lady Godiva:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lady_Godiva. After trying to persuade her husband to lift the oppressive taxation she finally ended up giving in to his challenge and riding naked through the town 'clothed in her hair' to get him to lift the taxes.

From that original idea I went on to think how women have used their hair to hide behind, to 'embellish' themselves, and the legend of witches who stopped being witches when their hair was cut off. Seems there's magic in hair, as it is one of our greatest weapons still and used in all sorts of ways to entice people to do what we want, which makes hair a double edged sword.

Another image created with a stock image of the beautiful Jessica Truscott (Faestock).

Dragonfly

MCN: CAY1Q-9NX4F-MU191

This was a photo of a necklace I made for a friend a while back (the necklace is made from vintage chains, vintage beads and charms and mostly semi-precious beads although a few are crystal).  I wanted a mysterious, tragic mood for this image so it is heavily edited and colour adjusted to give a vintage 'film noir' feel.

Rockabilly

MCN: CBX7G-197HE-1NH11

I've always loved this stock image. It's so cool, but I couldn't think of anything to do with it, because it was perfect as it was, however, then this idea came to me. It reminds me of the scene in Gone with the Wind where Scarlett makes herself a dress from the drawing room curtains. I love the make and mend idea behind this and the fun red shoes. A girl doing for herself and having fun whilst doing so. :-)

Thumbelina

MCN: C7497-JCWTK-773QA

Another one in my fairy tales themed images... Came to me when I was playing around with Tilt-Shift.

I remember how I felt when I was a kid and the world seemed so big. It's still big now but in different ways. I wanted my Thumbelina to reflect a more up-to-date image of a 'small' woman - I wanted her to look strong and in charge of the part of world she is inhabiting, not intimidated by it, but mastering it. Maybe it's wishful thinking on the other hand maybe it's inspiring to those of us not quite there yet. :-)

Flower Power

Another of my 'hipster' images. I love creating them as they're so much fun, and not always quite what they seem.

I loved the strong, confident pose of the model and her individuality and wanted to show it in its 'full bloom'. There's something amazing about someone exuding the feeling that they are exactly who they want to be, where they want to be and how they want to be, without adhering to peer pressure or the latest fashion trends but just your inner self and sense of beauty; just like a flower really, hence the title Flower Power. :-)

The image - as always is available on my various art websites (see the links on the right-hand side) as prints, skins, posters, and greeting cards. :-)

Not a Toy

Illustration to go with my poem.
My inner freedom and my independence are both important treasures to me, which I'd defend to the death. Sounds utterly dramatic, but being manipulated and steered into a direction as it suits someone else is horrible, no matter how well meaning it might be. I've always strongly believed that we need to make our own mistakes. It's one thing to share our experiences and help with advice and examples and another to manipulate someone supposedly for their own good. It never sat well with me.

No (Wo)Man is an Island - Triptych - Photo Manipulation

Inspired by a quote by John Donne, see the full quote here and a report I saw on a TV programme recently about how many old people are found dead days after their death because they were on their own without any immediate family.
