I love day dreaming. Model myself, edited in Photoshop with my own and bought resources plus one texture by the amazing and generous Brooke Shaden.

The Bear

© Sybille Sterk
Do not copy or publish this in any way, shape or form without my written permission.

A little finger puppet that I couldn't bear to part with. I had such lovely memories of the bear, the bear, the bear.... that's what we called him whenever we had a story with him in it. I tried to capture the happiness of the moments we shared with him.

Straight from the camera, no textures just a few colour adjustments.

All images my own. Edited with Photoshop.

The Black Cat (Sammie)

© Sybille Sterk
Do not copy or publish this in any way, shape or form without my written permission.

Most of the time my cats just run off or are moving around a lot to make sure I can't get a decent picture of them (except for by accident), however, now and then they take pity on me and pose. Sammie was obviously in a generous mood and sat there, completely still and as perfect as can be. :-)

All images my own. Edited with Photoshop.

All my images are available on Redbubble, Artflakes, Society6 and Bluecanvas as prints, cards, posters, skins for laptops, Blackberry, iPhones and other phones (for the skins go to Bluecanvas). You can now also get most of my images on cushion covers (go to Society6 for these).

Rapunzel

MCN: CJHT2-F3QA5-MWL7U
This is another shot from my first photo shoot. It's my favourite because of the amount of emotion that comes through. I always liked Rapunzel; children always seem to pay for their parents' mistakes and in that way the tale is quite realistic. Depending on the version of the tale you read Rapunzel does quite a lot to free herself, other than most of the other princesses, which only seem to hang around, often asleep or otherwise incapacitated, waiting to be rescued. ;-) I am still waiting for a gung-ho princess, although, saying that Fhiona from Shrek was a good start....

Snow White

Part of my new series of images for licensing on Arcangel-Images - use this code: SYST-0188

From my very first photo shoot. The model is the beautiful Francesca.

Snow White in her coffin. It's always been one of my favourite fairytales, despite the fact that I was always annoyed that she just didn't learn from her experience, but maybe that's why it's such a good example?

Created with my own photographs in Photoshop, no stock used.

Essential Cat

MCN: CP922-9KCGK-PXHKF
Part of my new series of images for licensing on Arcangel-Images - use this code: SYST-0036

This is the best photo of my cat I've managed to shoot so far. I love the 'in your face' feeling of it and it shows his personality so well. I've done very little editing except for a little enhancement.

Created with my own photographs in Photoshop, no stock used.

All my licensing images are available on Redbubble, Artflakes and Bluecanvas as prints, cards, posters, skins for laptops, Blackberry, iPhones and other phones (for the skins go to Bluecanvas).

Dissembling - Reinforced Fragility

Fourth in the series.
dis·sem·ble  (d-smbl)
v. dis·sem·bled, dis·sem·bling, dis·sem·bles
1. To disguise or conceal behind a false appearance. See Synonyms at disguise.
2. To make a false show of; feign.
To disguise or conceal one's real nature, motives, or feelings behind a false appearance.
From The Free Dictionary
The series is about the different guises and masks we wear.

This particular image is about the armour we wear to hide our own vulnerabilities and fragility. The more we reinforce that outer armour though, the more fragile we are when that armour is penetrated as the armour is often an inability of dealing the issues that make us vulnerable and fragile.
I've painted the face armour and then texturised it and added the screw heads (my own photographs). The fragility stickers are photographs from a parcel that we recently received. It's funny you never realise what may come in handy, so I am constantly snapping away at everything.

Dissembling - Beauty Pageant

Second in my new series called Dissembling
dis·sem·ble  (d-smbl)
v. dis·sem·bled, dis·sem·bling, dis·sem·bles
1. To disguise or conceal behind a false appearance. See Synonyms at disguise.
2. To make a false show of; feign.
To disguise or conceal one's real nature, motives, or feelings behind a false appearance.

The series is about the different guises and masks we wear.

This particular image is about the efforts we make and the pains we are prepared to take to be beautiful and to adhere to the beauty standards and trends of our time. From designer eyes (coloured contact lenses) to makeup to surgery to turning ourselves into animals or vampires (and so on) there are many ways to hide ourselves until we cannot tell where the mask ends and we begin. The saddest thing of all is that we seem to forget that outer beauty is nothing without inner beauty. However, any inner beauty we possess is often overshadowed by the pursuit of outer beauty.

I am not saying that a little makeup is evil or that you shouldn't look after yourself and make the best of your assets, however, in recent years the concerns with our 'outer' shell seem to have taken over any concerns we have with our inner selves, the content as it were. From trying to be size 0 to wearing the latest fashion to cosmetic surgery we seem to have forgotten who we are and where we come from.

Dissembling - Age of Technology

First in a new series called "Dissembling"
dis·sem·ble  (d-smbl)
v. dis·sem·bled, dis·sem·bling, dis·sem·bles
1. To disguise or conceal behind a false appearance. See Synonyms at disguise.
2. To make a false show of; feign.
To disguise or conceal one's real nature, motives, or feelings behind a false appearance.
From The Free Dictionary
The series is about the different guises and masks we wear.

This particular image, the first in the series, is about the way technology changes us. From the internet to the way we interact with each other to the way it allows us to hide who we really are and what we look like to the effects it has on our every day lives from the way it brings us closer together to the second hand nature of many of the things we experience.

Just in case you're wondering, I don't think technology is an 'evil thing' but I think it sometimes changes and affects us and the way we live in unexpected ways and it's important to consider what is happening to us with technology more and more taking over.

Girl With Ribbon - Girl With... Series

Sub Title: Entanglements
Again, a deceptively romantic and sensual picture with a totally different message. This is about the traps we set ourselves and the traps we're caught in - from self perception to role models we find ourselves tangled up in sometimes barely visible constraints - the way we look, the way we behave, what we're supposed to do and what we want to do - signified both by the (outer restraints) spiderwebs and the (inner restraints) ribbons and bow. The sky and clouds can be seen two ways - the striving for 'enlightenment' and the freedom from the restraints we seek, or maybe it's just about the way we often walk around with our heads in the clouds, totally unaware of the constraints that hold us back? There are fragments of fairy tale princesses in there as well - I can see Rapunzel and he hair, Sleeping Beauty and Snow White both asleep and all of them waiting for Prince Charming. However, in real life there rarely is a Prince Charming to rescue us and, personally, I'd rather rescue myself. LOL

You can see the whole series here:
