Kiss Me

© Sybille Sterk

Photograph of a (not quite so) common frog. Isn't he cute? He stayed completely still and let me take pictures of him from all sides, maybe because or despite the bright light I shone on him (her?). I love the golden ringed eyes and the lips ready for a kiss. I can see why they came up with they idea of kissing frogs. Who wouldn't want to kiss this one?

Winter Wood

© Sybille Sterk

This was an image I took last spring, however it was raining and the image turned out quite grainy. I liked the 'window' effect of the thickett enough though to play around with it and create this. I love the feeling of a magical winter it conveys. It reminds me of Snow White and the Snow Queen.

Sleeping Beauty

MCN: CB5LW-CY59S-X869K

From my very first photo shoot. The model is the beautiful Francesca.

I always wondered about Sleeping Beauty, what better way to escape all the frogs than to sleep for a hundred years and be woken up by Prince Charming? :-)

From my very first photo shoot. The model is the beautiful Francesca.

Snow White in her coffin. It's always been one of my favourite fairytales, despite the fact that I was always annoyed that she just didn't learn from her experience, but maybe that's why it's such a good example?

Cut Me

MCN: CYRGA-TE9U3-XWLF5
This one is an interpretation of Rapunzel, still going with the fairytale theme here.... Made me think about hair and how the power is 'ours' as long as we cut it, but not when someone else cuts it, then it diminishes us (i.e. what they used to do to women to 'mark' them as prostitutes). I remember some fairytales I read a long time ago, where the only way to 'cure' a witch was by cutting off her hair, she'd become a normal woman then. There is power in hair and the length of it...

Morgan le Fay - Photo Manipulation

Morgan le Fay illustration. Read more about her here.

I've always been fascinated by King Arthur and the women who play a major role in this myth. Each and every single one is interesting and multifaceted, and tragic. This is my take on Morgana. In case you're wondering, she's holding a bird cage with willow-the-whisp. :-)

Titania - Photo Manupulation

Inspired by Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream. My favourite of all his plays. :-)

Second illustration in my Shakespeare Heroines collection.
See Juliet here:
Titania has always been my favourite. Here's a quote to set the stage:

I know a bank whereon the wild thyme blows,
Where oxlips and the nodding violets grows
Quite over-canopied with luscious woodbine,
With sweet muck- roses, and with eglantine:
There sleeps Titania some time of the night
Lull'd in these flowers with dances and delight.

Wood Nymph - Photo Manipulation

I was playing with my own premade backgrounds. This particular image was inspired by the photos of the Cottingley Fairies. Arthur Conan Doyle was apparently convinced that the 'faries' were real, although to me they look like paper cutouts... Odd. Photo manipulation certainly has come a long way since 1917.

Thank you!

Thank you to all of you (you know who you are) who supported me and sent me e-mails to enquire how I am and why I am not blogging and posting on the various mailing lists. It was much appreciated and made me feel much, much better. :-)

As a little thank you, here's the Titania dress I designed a little while ago, dedicated to all of you:
