one last kiss

© Sybille Sterk
Do not copy or publish this in any way, shape or form without my written permission.

View from the back of the house when it was misty and foggy one day. Heavily edited to go with my poem of the same name.

Words from the poem:
one last kiss
scented with
almond bitterness
flavoured with
salty tears
shimmering in the light of the moon

Silent Tears

When I created the book cover for Elemental Rising, I bought a simple papier-mâché
mask, which I wanted (and did) to include in the final image. However, I also wanted to create an image with just the mask. This is the image I made with it. :-) There is something about masks... something magical and a little scary and something a little sad. It always makes me think of Carnival in Venice but also of the Phantom of the Opera.

Created with my own photographs in Photoshop, no stock used.

The final in the series. Sometimes even tears aren't enough....

No one was hurt when I took this picture. :-)

Death of a Butterfly

MCN: CBCLC-L5KDW-6JDP1

This is a conceptual work and I am not sure I can explain it adequately. Normally a butterfly is the symbol of renewal, re-incarnation however, in this the butterfly dies, so the renewal is cancelled. I've made a plain white paper origami butterfly for this to indicate the death of the magic and innocence. On a subconscious level this is deeply feminine and feminist to me, hence the blood on the butterfly and the wall. Once girls turn into women their deaths begin, the only renewal remains in reproduction, until then everything was possible.

Unravelling - Photo Manipulation

This is my latest photo manipulation to go with my poem Unravelling.
I created the texture for the code on the model's back:
Texture on the model's skin:
The writing was created by using many, many different fonts and symbols and blending them with textures.
I also knitted part of my 'stock' images this time, took a photo of the knitting and then 'welded' it to the model's lower back. I also used the knitting to create a paper texture (or grain) in Painter and painted it over parts of the back to make it homgeneous.
