A for Autumn

© Sybille Sterk
Do not copy or publish this in any way, shape or form without my written permission.

I went out in the lovely autumn sunshine and took some pictures of the remaining foliage. I generally don't like autumn much because it means summer is at an end and winter is just around the corner, but I love days like yesterday.
If you look carefully at the picture you see what I spotted when I took the picture... hence the name. :D

Edited with textures and colour adjustments.

Early Autumn Glory (Diptych)

I went to the woods yesterday and, no, I didn't find any teddybears having a picnic, but I found this, the most glorious golden light shimmering through the trees. I love the colours in the autumn and the wonderful light, even though it always reminds me that winter is coming and that summer is over. :-(

I love the woods and the serenity that can be found in the wind making the leaves rustle and the smells wafting from the ground with each step you take and the light that shines through the trees like some benevolent spirit. :-) Sorry. I get carried away sometimes.

My own images plus bought resources.

the world in a leaf

the magic of the leaf
I always felt leaves were magic - the way they begin from simple little buds and then the way they change their colour through the year and fall to the ground to make a rustling carpet of leaves to return on the tree the next spring. Wonderful.

Velvet Leaves

Taken in my garden a couple of days ago. The leaves grow through the back of a bench and I just loved the way they'd arranged themselves. Heavily edited with colour adjustments and textures.

All images/textures/brushes my own or bought. Edited with Photoshop.

All my images are available on Redbubble, Artflakes, Society6 and Bluecanvas as prints, cards, posters, skins for laptops, Blackberry, iPhones and other phones (for the skins go to Bluecanvas). You can now also get most of my images on cushion covers (go to Society6 for these).

Feet Firmly on the Path

© Sybille Sterk
Do not copy or publish this in any way, shape or form without my written permission.

Taken in November in Cambridgeshire. No textures, just colour adjustments and a little lensblur to the bottom and top. There is something so special about the colours of autumn, with the last remnants of green and the bright yellows, oranges and vibrant reds of the leaves against the stark black of the bark and soil.

All images my own. Edited with Photoshop.

a song in the dark

A photograph I took a couple of weekends ago. I love the autumn colours and the last of the fruit of the season. There's something so precious about this and it gives hope for another spring.

The words of the poem are mine:

the pyramids still stand
so why shouldn't I walk away
with a smile in my future and
a seed of hope
like a spark in the night
why shouldn't there be
a crown somewhere ahead or
at the very least
a rosebush
thorns and all
The whole poem can be read here

Into the Sky

It's funny how much a place can change from one season to another and how the beauty is different but still there. I love architectural plants, like this (what I believe to be) angelica. It looks so pretty with its umbrella spine baskets and the little tatters of flowers and leaves left on it.

Ivy - Autumn

Pictures of ivy taken yesterday at Byron's Pool in Cambridgeshire. I love the beautiful heartshape of ivy, and although this part of the ivy was dried rather than juicy and green I loved the copper colour against the rough bark.

Sunlight

© Sybille Sterk
Do not copy or publish this in any way, shape or form without my written permission.

Taken with my new Lensbaby Composer Soft Focus lens. I am still experimenting with it and trying to get to grips with it. It's not as easy as it looks, but I liked this one. These are actually the leaves of a winter jasmin but with the lens they came out yellow and full of sunlight. Almost like magic they showed all the sunlight they stored up over the summer (this was taken a week ago, in October).

All other images/textures/brushes my own. Edited with Photoshop.

upon waking

© Sybille Sterk

The image was taken this week at the park. I lvoed the wonderful golden leaves of the beech trees, especially as a lot of the other leafy trees are still green. The poem came to me yesterday when I woke up, hence the title. My mind seems to be very active when I am asleep which explains why I am always so tired in the mornings. LOL

the many nights
that found the morning light
glittering on my cheeks
like shards of glass
and my heart
running through my fingers
into the ocean of
might-have-been
and never-will-be
You can read the whole poem here.

There is glory in the colours of autumn; the last burst of colour before winter. This is a celebration of this glory. :-)

This was taken only a few days ago, late in the afternoon with the light fading. Chestnuts with their prickly outer layer and the smooth inside always seemed magic to me as a child. They are the perfect place to keep secret memories. :-)

All my own images. :-)

I feel so inspired by the wonderful autumn/winter light and the contrast of the bare branches and the little colour left in the remaining leaves and fruit against clear crisp sky.

Joy and Regrets are also available for licensing from my Arcangel-Images portfolio

Girl with Blackbird - Photo Manipulation

Another one in my "Girl with... " series.

I've used a blackbird this time (a baby one... but still!). Blackbirds in mythology are often thrown in with ravens, crows and magpies. Each of them has their own 'tasks' or association; tthe blackbird is associated with 'temptation' (often but not always of a sexual nature). Temptation often brings with it change and happens when we're unsettled already, hence the Autumn leaves, to symbolise the need for change, to move on.
