Early Autumn Glory (Diptych)

© Sybille Sterk
Do not copy or publish this in any way, shape or form without my written permission.
I went to the woods yesterday and, no, I didn't find any teddybears having a picnic, but I found this, the most glorious golden light shimmering through the trees. I love the colours in the autumn and the wonderful light, even though it always reminds me that winter is coming and that summer is over. :-(

I love the woods and the serenity that can be found in the wind making the leaves rustle and the smells wafting from the ground with each step you take and the light that shines through the trees like some benevolent spirit. :-) Sorry. I get carried away sometimes.

My own images plus bought resources.

Blood Wood

© Sybille Sterk
Do not copy or publish this in any way, shape or form without my written permission.

This was an ordinary picture of a spring wood with wild primroses and bluebells and trees... however, then I got my hands on it and turned it into a blood wood inspired by the TV series of Game of Thrones. I wanted something a little ominous and magical.

All images/textures/brushes my own or bought. Edited with Photoshop.

All my images are available on RedbubbleArtflakesSociety6 and Bluecanvas as prints, cards, posters, skins for laptops, Blackberry, iPhones and other phones (for the skins go toBluecanvas). You can now also get most of my images on cushion covers (go to Society6 for these).

She Walks In Beauty

© Sybille Sterk

She Walks in Beauty
She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that's best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes:
Thus mellow'd to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.
One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impaired the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o'er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express
How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.
And on that cheek, and o'er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!

Lord Byron, 1814

Picture taken earlier this year and edited a few days ago. I changed the colours and added the fog, I also edited out the people at the end of the path. I wanted a spooky ethereal image but in the end there was something so hopeful about it that I felt the poem was the perfect companion.

All images/textures/brushes my own or bought. Edited with Photoshop.

Bluebell Wood

 MCN: C2D2L-LS4TH-4A7P5

This is my version of the Bluebell Wood I visited last Spring. I liked the pictures I took, but they looked a bit washed out to me and never felt right. I finally had an epiphany when I discovered tilt-shift. It's a technique that allows you to either make something look like a model railway town or created a slightly otherworldly feel. I used this technique for the latter here.

I first cropped the image, then applied the tilt-shift (lots of tutorials out there) then applied gradients, colour and textures to go from the image below to the one above. Now it feels like the day I went out Bluebell-Spotting. :-)

Dissembling - Wood for Trees

Sixth in a new series called Dissembling
dis·sem·ble  (d-smbl)
    v. dis·sem·bled, dis·sem·bling, dis·sem·bles
    1. To disguise or conceal behind a false appearance. See Synonyms at disguise.
    2. To make a false show of; feign.
To disguise or conceal one's real nature, motives, or feelings behind a false appearance.

    From The Free Dictionary
The series is about the different guises and masks we wear.

This particular image is about the way we disguise ourselves so we fit in and don't 'stick out' by making ourselves look and behave the same as everyone else. Thus, we, in our individuality become almost invisible and we don't notice the wood or even a single tree for the multitude of trees.
