Dream within a Dream

A mix of bought and public domain resources mixed together and turned into something special. More wings and antler love. A bit wilder than the last one. :)

The quote is by Edgar Allan Poe

just another rainy day in paradise

Picture taken in the park a while back through the mesh wire of the tennis court. A combination of two images pieced together with the rain was added at the editing stage.
The quote is by Roger Miller (musician) and the font is Amatic.

The image went with my mood. I've been fighting off a cold (and losing the battle) all week... hence no posts. I was too busy sneezing!

Build Your Wings

For my friend Denis - I hope your dream comes true sooner rather than later.

Magpie wing vector graphic drawn by me, textures added in Photoshop. I love feathers and wings. This was going to be a logo, but it's too detailed and, I think, too pretty to use just as a logo.

Horizon

This was taken last summer. I love going to the seaside and could spend hours just sitting there watching the wave. I tried to pack that feeling into the picture. There's nothing quite like it but messing around at the beach (to paraphrase Ratty from The Wind in the Willows).

All images/textures/brushes my own or bought. Emotion and magic added with Photoshop.

All my images are available on Redbubble, Artflakes, Society6 and Bluecanvas as prints, cards, posters, skins for laptops, Blackberry, iPhones and other phones (for the skins go to Bluecanvas). You can now also get most of my images on cushion covers (go to Society6 for these).

a song in the dark

A photograph I took a couple of weekends ago. I love the autumn colours and the last of the fruit of the season. There's something so precious about this and it gives hope for another spring.

The words of the poem are mine:

the pyramids still stand
so why shouldn't I walk away
with a smile in my future and
a seed of hope
like a spark in the night
why shouldn't there be
a crown somewhere ahead or
at the very least
a rosebush
thorns and all

Bluebell Wood

 MCN: C2D2L-LS4TH-4A7P5

This is my version of the Bluebell Wood I visited last Spring. I liked the pictures I took, but they looked a bit washed out to me and never felt right. I finally had an epiphany when I discovered tilt-shift. It's a technique that allows you to either make something look like a model railway town or created a slightly otherworldly feel. I used this technique for the latter here.

I first cropped the image, then applied the tilt-shift (lots of tutorials out there) then applied gradients, colour and textures to go from the image below to the one above. Now it feels like the day I went out Bluebell-Spotting. :-)

Hope is the thing with feathers...

...that perches in the soul, and sings the tune without words, and never stops at all. (Emily Dickinson)

This image was inspired by the Godess Ma'at (see here) as she is described in Tad Williams' Otherland series.

'The dead person's heart was placed on a scale, balanced by the feather of Ma'at.'

Normally Ma'at is represented by an ostrich feather, however, in this case I've used crow feathers as they worked better with my overall image - note the small hieroglyph in the bottom right-hand corner.

The End of All Hope - Photo Manipulation

This is my part of a collaboration in a dptych for Mission Monday on Rebdbubble
Check out the collaboration here
Check out Mieke's fab image here

It was quite a challenge, and one I enjoyed immensely. I love Mieke's atmospheric photograph and it was great to have to think of something to go with it and it was fun creating a completely new image to go with the mood and atmosphere in Mieke's image. It was also a big challenge for me to keep it black & white (okay, okay, I did apply a sepia photo filter), which must be a first for me.
