Valentine's Day is not far away, so love is in the air. My favourite merino yarn twisted into letters and a paper heart. Something pretty for someone special.

Little black kettle Triptych

I just started a new 1/52 project. This time we have a set topic/subject for each season. This season is for leading lines, and I've been on the hunt for lines ever since and came across my kettle during the chase. I loved the lines in the first and second image of this triptych, and love that the image is getting more and more abstract. The waterdrops on the kettle may show me to be a bad housewife, BUT they are ever so pretty and they prove that beauty can be found anywhere, if you just look.

All images/textures/brushes my own or bought. Edited with Photoshop.

This is the final set in the series. Promise, there won't be any more. LOL I couldn't decide, which one I liked betters, so here's the triptych and the tetraptych.  I thought they'd make a great Christmas present.

Three images of an autumnal willow. I love the detail on these shots. And three images of the wood in autumn. I love going to the woods and seeing all the colours any time of year, even in winter when the colours are mostly black and white. There's something so peaceful about a forest.

All six images were shot last weekend by me and have been edited with (bought) textures and actions from Apples & Sisters in Photoshop.

Either or both would make a great Christmas present. :-)

Magnification

I had a little play with my new magnification lenses. I liked the effect and the way the object seemed to change depending on how closely you looked at it, so I combined it in a triptych and added the clever quote by Oliver Wendell Holmes.

The mind, once expanded to the dimensions of larger ideas, never returns to its original size.

Ornamental

I took images of the gates at Cherry Hinton Hall park on the way out from my 'park shoot'. I have a thing about cast iron work, especially the Victorian kind with its total attention to detail and love for organic shapes. This speaks to me of Victorian England and Jack the Ripper. All that's missing is the fog and blood spatter. LOL

the universe next door

I am still playing with the idea of natural mirrors. I used two puddles to show parts of a Victorian streetlight and to me the reflections looked like windows to an alternate universe. Inspired by Fringe, one of my all time favourite TV series.

All images/textures/brushes my own or bought. Edited with Photoshop.

Between Heaven and Earth

You may remember that I was 'head hunted' by the Trillium Gallery
a while ago. Some of my images are available as prints and framed/matted art.

Maureen, the owner of the  Trillium Gallery, was keen for me to showcase some of my more controversial art in the gallery. She liked it so much, she created a video to show it off properly. I am still totally flabbergasted by the amazing video she made, by the words she put to go with it and by the music created by Steve Rust. It made me see my own art in a totally new light.

Here are the page and video for you to see.
It uses images from the following series:

Fall from Grace
Almost Rock, Paper, Scissors
Bound I, II, II and IV
Prints of all the images are available on Trillium Gallery

I wish I could fly, I'd never be afraid of falling

© Sybille Sterk

Taken with Instagram for iPhone. Crow feathers, a twig and some flowers from a plant that self seeded itself in my garden. Combined and edited in Photoshop, textures and curve adjustments added.

I have vertigo so I always wanted to be able to fly so I wouldn't fear heights any longer. I think it's a matter of feeling in control of things. Sometimes I wish I was. LOL

A juxtaposition of grungy urban texture and the lovely countryside. There’s a town and gown thing going on between the university of Cambridge and the town itself.

I have a thing about textures and how some textures seem to have symbolic meanings, almost like a secret language. When you walk on the edge there’s no knowing what you may find…
The first one is a pathway through the park. The path on one side, the grass just on the edge of the other side.
The bottom left picture is of broken glass by the side of a pub.
The final image is a broken sticker on a lamp post. The part of the sticker torn off had the shape of a wolf, which I found amusing because the sticker was about dogs (or rather their leftovers….) :-)

Another juxtaposition of urban grunge to lovely countryside. This time it was more about colour and texture.
The top image is of the Cambridge countryside which is extraordinarily pretty in the sunshine.
The other two images are textures I found on a wooden wall built around a building site.
Currently there’s a huge building boom going on in Cambridge and a lot of the pretty countryside is vanishing.

These were chance shots. The first is a house number on a fence. I am never sure if 66 is a lucky number or the devil’s number….?
The other two shots are from a building site again. I thought they worked with the luck. Sometimes luck is not enough and you need to follow the rules to be safe. :-)

All images in this series (Cambridge Collection) are available EXCLUSIVELY on Redbubble as prints, cards, posters and framed or mounted prints.

Spring diptychs and new calendar

The weather has been awful and grey for weeks. When the sun came out this morning I just had to take some pictures of the first signs of Spring. I can't wait for more! :-)
