Inspired by one of my favourite poems (which is not half as depressive as it sounds):
In the Desert
In the desert
I saw a creature, naked, bestial,
Who, squatting upon the ground,
Held his heart in his hands,
And ate of it.
I said, "Is it good, friend?"
"It is bitter – bitter", he answered,
"But I like it
Because it is bitter,
And because it is my heart."
I chose a pretty model instead of a 'beast' because I wanted to emphasise the way we sometimes let ourselves be overwhelmed by our emotions and end up 'eating our own heart' and like it.
