Some new stuff

I've had a busy few weeks preparing for my next photo shoot, taking photos and editing and just life in general, I thought it was time for an update.

You can always follow me on instagram to see what I am up to...? :D

I've been making flowers...
playing with fimo:
painting:
playing with paper:
making flower branches:
painting masks (not finished):
and I've created these two:

Both are available in all of the usual places in various forms. :D
So, hope this explains the lack of posts... :D

Death of a Butterfly

MCN: CBCLC-L5KDW-6JDP1

This is a conceptual work and I am not sure I can explain it adequately. Normally a butterfly is the symbol of renewal, re-incarnation however, in this the butterfly dies, so the renewal is cancelled. I've made a plain white paper origami butterfly for this to indicate the death of the magic and innocence. On a subconscious level this is deeply feminine and feminist to me, hence the blood on the butterfly and the wall. Once girls turn into women their deaths begin, the only renewal remains in reproduction, until then everything was possible.

Together - in the spirit of the season...

MCN: CUTV1-PD2FW-2CEHE

Another of my origami images, this time a crane. :-) They are actually three different cranes, I didn't just take a picture of the same one from different angles. :-) Thought this one was perfect for the season...

Hope

MCN: CEGW7-7KMXM-4MDDV

Ever since I created Paper Boats: http://www.redbubble.com/people/magpiemagic/works/8065586-paper-boats I had the origami bug.... so here's another with origami butterflies folded by me with 'proper' origami paper. Butterflies have always been a symbol of hope for me - being able to completely change who you are and become someone new is nothing short of a miracle. :-)

Origami Dress

Maybe a bit mad but it needed to be done. :-)

Origami Dress

I am so in love with this dress, and I even thought about if it could be done, but the fact is, I might be okay with a crochet hook, knitting needle and a paint brush... but sewing needles are just not me. Anyway, this is a dress for the red carpet at the Oscars not for every day or even a special day...

Each layer of fabric has been designed around an origami fold (looseley), like the Kanzashi flower which is often used in Japanese accessories.

Each and every pattern was made by me and layered over the 'fabric' to create the damasque effect.

The shoes are based on a popular Japanese design and look a bit like the Geta sandals.
