live so deep

More Vintage magic… a combination of bought and (found) public domain resources, combined as always in Photoshop. I know I’ve been a mermaid once, a long time ago… this is how it felt. I couldn’t find out who coined the quote, if you know, please send me a message.

A Sunday by the Seaside

I am so glad we went to the seaside on sunday. Got a lot of fresh air, and although it was quite bracing it was wonderful as we got a little sun and no rain until the drive home again.
Shingle Street. Probably one of my favourite beaches. I love the sound the waves make on the shingles and it's usually quite empty.
Treasure. All the shells have perfect holes for hanging. The cats are very interested.
The other side with the Beacons.
A soldier by the seaside - although this never happened. Apparently the Germans had planned an invasion here... but for some reason they didn't in the end. Just as well.
Orford. One of my favourite places. Again, it's quiet but with a lovely cafe and a place to buy nice fish. :-)
The harbour.
Some photos shot with my camera and a Lensbaby lens. And below (just because) an American Horror Story version of the pictures. LOL

where the sky touches the sea

There is something special about places where two elements or two opposites meet. They are a places where anything can happen, where anything is possible, they are magic and romantic, they may even transform us. I've always had a thing for mermaids. Maybe one day I will become a mermaid.

Destiny

This is a manipulation of several images and brushes. I took the bottom half of the image a while ago and because it had a plain and boring sky forgot about it for a bit. However, I came across it again yesterday and decided to play with it. It's another vartiation of my images on the future and the uncertainty of it and how our destiny waits just beyond the mist of time and still we walk blindly forward because there is no choice.

Sea Shells by the Sea Shore

I took this image of the shells yesterday when I took some other still life images for photo manipulations I have planned. I've tried a few times to get the perfect combination of shells and the light falling on them just right and this time it worked (imho) perfectly.

The water and splashes were added. Below is the original image:
I like it and it's pretty but it lacks the drama of the eidted one. I added water reflections, textures, the splashes, colour adjustments and highlights/shadows to create the drama.

All images/textures/brushes my own or bought. Edited with Photoshop.

The Woods at Night

A little magic on a grey day. This was another experiment. Vector graphics aren't my thing normally, but I thought sometimes it's good to do something outside your comfort zone. This was inspired by the opening screen for Once Upon a Time and then it turned into something else and I think there's more where this came from. I have already started on "The Woods at Sunset".

I started off with vector graphics for the trees (drawn in Photshop and edited in Illustrator), then I took them back into Photoshop and added colours, textures, the water for the little fish to swim in and the fish themselves. The fish are vintage images which I cut out (digitally) and added into the image. Then I played around with it to add all the magic. ;-)

Now for something different - The Tail

This was an experiment. I recently bought a CD full of vintage images and found some more on the net (all public domain) and then I played with them all.

There is a photo of the beach in the background and I mixed up the vintage images to create the mermaid and coloured it in and added textures.

The image is inspired by one of my recent poems which I am not ready to show yet because I am considering entering it in a contest. :-)

waiting in silence

This is an image I created for the 1/52 project (week 48). There are two photographs of the ice that has frosted over a water barrel in the garden, one a close-up shot (macro lens) of the ice at the front, the other a macro shot of the reflection of the rose bushes in the ice. I've added textures and colour adjustments and cropped it. There's a second landscape version I'll post tomorrow.

There is also a poem to go with it, which can be read here.

Scent of Roses

© Sybille Sterk
Do not copy or publish this in any way, shape or form without my written permission.

Image created for the Facebook Group/Project 1/52. This is week 34.

I combined 3 images of a reflection of a rose in a water butt and played heavily with the colours/curves, added textures (bokeh, ripples and scractches) and the barbed wire.

The idea behind this image is that some memories, no matter how beautiful are just too painful to remember, but sometimes something like the scent of roses will make you remember anyway.

I wanted the area behind the barbed wire blurred  and vague but with bright distinct colours to show the dreamlike quality of memories and the way they are distorted by how we felt at the time or feel now.

Edited in Photoshop, all my own images.

All my images are available on Redbubble, Artflakes, Society6 and Bluecanvas as prints, cards, posters, skins for laptops, Blackberry, iPhones and other phones (for the skins go to Bluecanvas).

Jellyfish Triptych and Print

My latest project.
Three 20x20 cm canvasses, interlinked with rope which gives them an all over length of roughly 70 cm. Each of the jellyfish has been crocheted in very thin copper gunmetal paint coated wire. The canavasses have been painted with acrylic paint, matt and glossy varnish to replicate water reflections.

This is a completely original work and available in my Etsy shop for sale.
 Jellyfish top.
 Jellyfish middle.
 Jellyfish bottom.
 Detail of bottom jellyfish.
If you can't afford the original right now, there's a diptych print of two of the jellyfish from the painting. You can get it from my Redbubble page.
