A reinterpretation of a couple of movie posters. The first one is inspired by Tarantino's Django Unchained and the second is inspired by Casablanca (the quote is from the film). I love both films for different reasons but in a way they're both about true love, one is about sticking with it and doing whatever it takes, the other about letting go
.
I've used my own photographs plus bought textures and some freebie and bought brushes on both images.

The font for Unchained is 3rd Man
The fonts for Paris are 1942 report and Carpenter.

This next part of the series is all about the memories people left behind. The museum collects items given to them by members of the public and I loved all the amazing stuff that told a real story of real people.

You can find out more about the comic strip Jane of War here.

Invasion

This image was a 'difficult birth'. It's for a competition and I had this idea in my head, but when I tried to find the right stock images for it, I couldn't. :-( So, I had to re-think my approach.

I wanted to do something that shows more than just a few aliens 'invading earth', but different layers of invasion: the usual 'war' invasion, the consequences, the rape, murder and torture. I've tried to keep it simple and use symbols like the towers (Martello tower I captured at the Suffolk coast), the wires into her back the ivy (a most invasive plant that will deconstruct buildings), the wounds and cracks to indicate the destruction of people during an invasion, etc.

I've used a lot of my own images in this one, including my own crack brush, ivy, sky and wire images, flag etc.

Cassandra - Photo Manipulation

Illustration of Cassandra of Troy.

I've always had a thing about Cassandra. My name 'Sybille' is from a Latin word meaning 'prophetess' (Wiki).

This image is set after the fall of Troy and Cassandra  is left with nothing - just a pile of broken bones in front of her and a burning city behind her.

There are variations on what actually happened to Cassandra, but she was given the gift of prophecy by the god Apollo, however, when he tried to get her to sleep with him (or his high priest) in advance for the gift, she refused him. Apollo took part of the gift back - although she still saw what would happen, none of her prophecies would be believed. She foresaw the Trojan Horse and warned her people but they discarded her advice and Troy fell.

The phrase 'I fear the Greeks (even if they are) bearing gifts'  is from the story of the Trojan War and refers to the Trojan Horse - a ruse to get soldiers into the city of Troy as the wooden horse was filled with soldiers.

I think the phrase should have been 'I fear the gods, especially when they come bearing gifts' as the Trojan War started because of a gift Aphrodite gave to Paris - the love of Helena's love - in exchange for naming her the most beautiful goddess.

Despite the gift of prophecy Cassandra had received she could not prevent the fall of Troy.

And the final gift, the Trojan Horse, prooved to be the downfall of the city.
