Memory Garden - Photo Manipulation

 

 

 

Inspired by the novel Little, Big or The Fairies' Parliament by John Crowley and the memory garden described in the novel. The memory garden idea is itself inspired by the method of loci, also called the memory palace, a system to help remember things. The idea has always fascinated me.

Mind Castles - Photo Manipulation

This is the illustration to accompany my poem of the same name.

It's easy to be smug about other people's escapism, but I believe it's an essential survival tool for most of us, be it watching a soppy film, reading a thriller (and imagining yourself as the dashing hero) or sitting on a bench during your lunch break and day dreaming. Let's face it, most of our lives aren't the kind you find in films, often there isn't a happy ending and a deus ex machina is a rare occurence.

So this is for all the daydreams that made our lives a little brighter and a little happier.

The image was as difficult to get right as the poem... however, I am happy it has the feel I was after now. :-)

Slide

Image to accompany my poem Slide.

The title 'Slide' came to me and I didn't quite know why at first. It's such an odd title for a poem, but it wouldn't go away. I then realised that it was inspired by a character in the Terry Goodkind series of books 'Sword of Truth'.  The Slide is a kind of soul eater and it can devour the soul of someone and use it to his/her own advantage.

The photo collage didn't turn out at all like I had planned it. Not that I am unhappy with how it turned out. LOL It's one of those images that grew and changed under my stylus as I put it together.

I am still quite new to photo manipulation and sometimes find it hard to find the right tools to do what I want, on the other hand I love the discoveries I make on the way.
