Birds and More Birds (Mobiles)

 Indigo Birds

 

Three birds and two clouds.

Materials used: hemp and embroidery lace, two indigo blue African fabrics with different patterns, one cream coloured fabric (also African), black felt, wooden and glass beads, vintage lace, stuffing and drift wood. The birds, their wings and the clouds are stuffed. Each bird is unique and it's perfect for any room, although I'd not recommend it for a bathroom.

The mobile took about 3 days to make and will be in my Etsy shop shortly or you can contact me for details if you're in a hurry. :-)

Teal Love Birds

 

The cutest little love birds sitting on a swing facing each other.

Materials used: silk pods (2 shades of teal), wooden and glass beads, guinea fowl and teal/black coloured feathers, sequins, buttons, hemp, felt, driftwood.

The mobile took about 1 day to make and will be in my Etsy shop shortly or you can contact me for details if you're in a hurry. :-)

Mobile - Captain Jack

This is my latest mobile. The wonderful Sue sent me a massive parcel of driftwood. I was dying to make something with it and on Saturday I made my first (mostly) driftwood mobile. Whilst I was making it, my son was watching Pirates of the Caribbean... and when it was finished (the mobile) it reminded me of Captain Jack - the beads in his hair, a little rough around the edges, suprising, butch and charming all at the same time... and a little scary. :-)

I've used lots of different beads, shells, driftwood, seaglass and hemp to put  it all together, hours of stringing and a little crochet. Oh, and there's a little aluminium wire to hold the beads at the top in place.

Mermaid's Lullabye - Mobile

This is my latest commission "Mermaid's Lullabye". It has been designed to go into a baby's nursery so the colours are soft and dreamy; the razor clam shells provide the mobile with a lovely sound and the mirrors add sparkle. It will go to Sue at Studio Window tomorrow.

It takes me about 1 day to make a medium sized mobile and 1.5 - 2 days to make one of the larger ones. You can commission one, when you do, please let me know the size required plus any colour schemes you prefer. Please remember that these are mostly natural materials so not all colour schemes are possible. To order, send me an e-mail. :-)

Seashells by the Seashore - Mobile

This is a present for Steve. It's his birthday today. :-)

The large shells and the razor clam shells plus the feather are from Holme Beach, the rest - recycled glass beads, sea glass, fossil, sea urchin and other shells and the lava cube beads - are from my stash. I've used two types of hemp, metallic thread and gunmetal wire to attach everything to the aluminium hand shaped hanger.

It was fun to make and I am considering to make some more. I'll have to go to the beach again to collect some more shells and feathers first though. If you're interested in a mobile like this, let me know. :-)

My Lovely Green and Pink Necklace

You might know already, if you read Natural Attril's Blog, that I snatched the pink and green necklace before anyone else could get their grubby hands on it.

It's so pretty and looks incredibly stylish when worn with a black dress. I am very pleased. Here are some pictures. And go and check out Toby's lovely jewellery over on Natural Attril.

Oh, and it arrived in the cutest little triangle box - picture of which has been provided too. :-)

Shells and Black Glamour to Cheer Up a Miserable Day

When I arrived home from a miserable and very stressful day at work I found a parcel hidden away just for me. :-) It came all the way from Lancashire and contained the two necklaces I'd ordered from Toby. The most wonderful surprise to cheer up a grey day.

This is the necklace featured on the Natural Attrill website and that I fell in love with straight away. It's like carrying a little bit of seaside around with you. All the lovely shells and beads, the different coloured hemp all work perfectly together. If I close my eyes I am somewhere on a beach - almost as good as a day out! ;-)


And here is a picture of the black and slate necklace Toby made to match the bracelet I got in a swap for the scarf I am making for Penny (promise, it'll be finished soon!). It's all very complicated this swapping business, but great fun. As Penny says, it's so much more fun to buy from an artist you know than from some shop... Far more personal and it's such a special feeling to know that someone sat down and made something just for you. :-)

Here's a close up of the beads used in the lariat style necklace and the bracelet together with the lovely box the jewellery arrived in.

This hemp jewellery is lovely to wear. I have another set in sea greens which I am wearing right now (picture on the Natural Attrill website) and a pink necklace that can also be worn as a bracelet.

The hemp is soft and silky, the beads are all chosen perfectly to match each other, including vintage and handmade beads and buttons, and the jewellery even makes a lovely sound when the beads click against one another. Check out the Natural Attrill site and order your own. I can only recommend it!
