Angel

I don't normally paint angels, but my sister suggested I should do. I wasn't particularly inspired by the idea until I saw this photo by David Mapletoft. I love the pose of the woman in the photo and the exuberance of it. It gave me a starting point for my angel picture.



I wanted something that showed 'MY angel'. My angel had to have a certain innocence - the kind of innocence you see in toddlers. I also wanted my angel to be part of everything, hence the vines and flowers. And there had to be lots of light and shadow in the image.

The vines in the back are actually all patterns I created. The frame is made up of photos I took of branches and then edited with filters.

I am quite pleased with how it turned out. A first for me. I've painted all sorts and shapes of fairies and monsters and demons, but never an angel. LOL

Pictures from the Seaside

We spent a fantastic day at the Suffolk coast yesterday, starting with the best fish & chips ever at Dunwich (where all the pictures were taken).

Here you can see a rusty (but still working) winch in the foreground and the fish & chips place at the back.

I didn't want to take much time to mess around with photos so they were all quick shots - more as a memento than for artistic quality - so I played around with them today. :-)

We brought back lots of fresh fish and seafood - you just can't compare the fish you buy in the shops with freshly caught fish. I'd happily eat fish like that every day of the week.

We were so lucky with the weather too - it was hot but not too hot, with a slight breeze and we found a lovely tearoom by the beach in Orford Ness to end the day.

Bounty

Here are some pictures of the vegetables and lettuces we got from our allotment:

Marrow, sweet carrots, peppers, chilli peppers, various tomatoes, beans and onion.

The lettuces are sweet and crisp and almost don't need any vinaigrette because they're so tasty.


There is loads more in the allotment, including cabbages, aubergines, more of the above, HUGE courgettes, horseraddish, beans, butternut squash and raspberries (almost gone because I've been eating them as they ripened - treat for the gardeners) and rhubarb. I've also planted lots of flowers so we'd have something pretty to look at whilst doing the inevitable weeding. Thanks to the changeable weather the weeds are growing like mad too....
